Wonka 2023
I do think it’s worth saying that this was a very bad “by the dozen” movie with bad boiler plate music and horrible acting…..but it’s worth defending in two ways! It did capture the ethos of a Ronald Dahl book and specifically that of Wonka. It was authentic even if done in the worst capitalist gimicky way. It insisted upon silliness as resistance and liberation which is cool, and the chocolatier as drug dealer was a fun touch

I seem to be one of two non-Portuguese speakers to have seen this film. And I am gonna get flak for it, big time.
I actually really liked this movie. It took what is inherently a silly porn premise and made it into a somewhat realistic compelling portrayal of cute teenage romance. Super wholesome all around. The ending is a bit silly but I prefer silly over tragic soul crushing ending that punishes the characters for having gay sex.

the only thing I can find wrong with this movie is the title. I decided I'm anti-reclaiming the word sodom. at least until I see someone actively reclaiming it. This movie never says the word and has very little relevance to the title except that the characters just happen to have some gay sex. Just seems like a more relevant title would have been so much more compelling.
