Raine Allen-Miller's feature-length directorial debut cannot get much better than this. As someone who has a had time settling in for modern romantic comedies, Rye Lane raises the bar going forward for me. Photographed brilliantly and has a fun script. The chemistry between David Jonsson and Vivian Oparah is lightning in a bottle. Both deliver so well together, bolstered by the world Allen-Miller brings us into. At a tight 82-minute runtime, this movie is instant comfort watch art.

    "You sure?"

It is beautifully therapeutic in a way. I'm not sure if that is the correct word to use, but it feels like it. Wong Kar-Wai has an amazing talent as a filmmaker; he can make you believe in love and its complexities while crush you with realism that makes you think, just, wow, we are so lucky when we get it, even if it is a quick impulse or something more. Powell & Pressburger, man, what else is there to say really? At first, I was concerned that it may be the first from them I wouldn't be the biggest fan of but you melt into their worlds, especially with that stunning black and white photography by Hillier. True masters, irreplaceable talents.

A fun outing with charm. A definitive Sunday evening watch, it's light and has a solid cast who are enjoyable to watch. Runtime maybe a bit felt as it goes on but they had to get the whole soundtrack of the 80's into the movie.

    "Honey, I GOT balls... YOURS"

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this. It is funny; a lot of dialogue and story details dropped in caught me off guard, and the roller scenes are pretty interesting to watch. Some of the performances are not the greatest of all time but Claudia Jennings is so fun as just the biggest a-hole on the roller derby scene. Unholy Rollers like several of Jenning's other movies are establishing themselves as solid guilty pleasure films for me, an enjoyable time had here.
