an incredible act of empathy against a background of the most hideous parts of humanity. this film follows individual survivors of canada’s residential schools, which enabled a network of oppression and personal abuse that is poorly recorded, difficult to quantify and nearly impossible to fathom emotionally. canada’s residential school system included more than 100 schools that received federal funding. in the united states, that number was over 400.
