Shout-outs to highschool me discovering this on the shelf at Video Ezy and renting it every week until I just ended up keeping the VHS.

Beat Takeshi brings the fuckin ruckus in this "east meets west" Yakuza epic.

Such a perfect blend of brutal action, comedy and melancholy.

This comedic masterpiece never gets old and it still gets deep belly laughs out of me. It was such a game changer when the Lonely Island boys came onto comedy the scene.

So many iconic quotes and scenes from this movie alone cemented their style as legendary. The cool beans edit being in a movie and letting actors go off the deep end like Will Arnett yelling babe 30 times until it hard cuts. There's just so much to love about it.

2007 was such a simpler time.

One of the movies where Marky Mark isn't terrible... Also another great addition to the Reese Witherspoon has range list.

Man the sex scenes just reminded me of Liam Neeson in Widows. Trying to suck women's faces off. I bet Marky really did kiss and fingerblast that way back in the day. Now he just kisses his finger tips up to god in front of a church on Instagram videos. #stayprayedup

Some genuinely tense moments but overall the script just has so many implausible scenes and stupid dialogue and then the movie just kind of ends .. not bad but nothing special here at all.

The lush scenery and the iconic soundtrack do alot to make this memorable and the concept of a backpacker utopia always interested me.

The book does a better job of showing Richard's devolving mental state and the eventual breakdown of the island community, shattering the illusion of paradise it's spent the whole time building up. Whereas this ends much more optimistically and doesn't have the same heightened sense of terror.

The mainstream appeal works for a film adaptation but the story overall is done much better in the novel. Still, this is something I always enjoy re-watching.

I can't remember the last time I was lied to this badly. Godzilla looked amazing, the CGI was Poppin but the main plot was so boring and the acting was comically over the top melodramatic. This really wasn't for me.
