The Rule of Jenny Pen 2024
I don’t think Ashcroft knew how good a movie he was making — either that or he really thinks that puppet is scarier than it is, because he keeps trying to goose us when we’re in the pocket. Needed to have the confidence to rely on the story and the cast because Rush and Lithgow are both bringing it, and the themes are strong: the inevitability of age and the constraints it puts on your facilities and agency, the ratcheting existential prison of increasing infantilization, and the cold hell of lacking all true companionship. Good sound, too!
