a nail-biting film where things start spiraling and characters try to pretend like there's nothing wrong. i was totally spoiled by the first review i saw on Shudder that ruined some surprises, but even a basic plot point spoiler couldn't prepare me for how this film handles it differently.
If this movie's characters weren't shapes it would probably be rated R or at least would need a violence content warning.
It's worth watching for the Owen Wilson sounding main character 'A. Square' and the 'Flatland' story being adapted into a sort of transcendental dream.
The entire thing is more of a modern day parable, and the narrative feels pretty much like a modern Kafkaesque experience. Nic Cage sells the part and his character is exactly the kind of love/hate dude he needs to be to portray the kind of person that this film is talking about, and the society it's equally bringing into the picture.
Reminded me of an American Pie style buddy comedy with a bit of crime and espionage to add tension to the humor. Still, the mood is light despite the circumstances, and it's a fun watch for it's college humor. It's good to see charismatic and strong lesbian stories being shared through the lighter comedic tones.
