Beautiful, exquisitely made, just didn't make me feel much of anything. The best bits are the castle sequence for me, including the approach. I'm aware it's a folk tale, but there is something so perfectly contrived about the staging and mounting of the movie, every shot gliding just so into the wipe transition, every set so perfect that I'm sure the edge of it is just out of frame, that I couldn't really fall into the movie and its story…

Favorite movie of the year so far. My favorite of Rohrwacher's films as well, although they're all so special, and ranking her films feels particularly besides the point. I simply feel lucky that she's making movies like this one.
It's clever, beguiling, sensory, melancholy filmmaking. Her movies are some of the few where the ideas, the images and the ultimate execution are all perfectly balanced and calibrated, and it makes them glow and radiate with a true feeling of magic.
The tombaroli song was a highlight, as were all the other faces of Arthur's merry band of thieves. Just loved it.
