2025 Criterion Challenge #25
1990s
Initially this was a 4 ⭐️, but I keep thinking about it and laughing so I had to bump it out of pure enjoyment. Laughs, murder, painful self-awareness, and fun cameos. It really had it all for me, and I don’t remember a single dull moment.
Happy BDSM (Books Directly to Screen Month) to my 70mm heads. I’m so back, people are saying.
La La Land 2016

Look…. this is a very good movie. The acting, the colors, obviously the shots, and the opening song slaps. There’s something about the characters themselves that I can’t come to grips with. Why do I not care about them? I really want to! But I don’t feel like I caught the emotional impact until I started projecting lol. Please give me time to process my feelings.

The Brutalist 2024

5 hour roadtrip + 4 hour film + 5 hour drive home = an entire day SAT for The Brutalist
70mm VistaVision was gorgeous and the runtime flew by. The pacing was exactly what I needed to lose myself in the story. Don’t even get me started on the score! Overture (Bus) on repeat.
It’s difficult to find some kind of subjective rating here. The feelings I had at intermission and at the end were on two different wavelengths, so…
