  Felt at times like a bad Exorcist knock off. I vastly prefer the lyricism of the 1979 version compared to the noise and hysteria prevalent here.

  Nobody is better than Jake Gyllenhaal at fully inhabiting such completely different characters from film to film. His transformation here is mind-blowing.

  The unique story is compelling in itself, but the presentation being so off-putting and unpredictable makes it even better.

  It is a shame that such an artistic success somehow avoided being nominated for Best Picture. The intensity here is sorely missing from the majority of films currently produced by the industry.

  Every time i watch this movie i instantly feel transported to a different time and place. All of the physical details and the environment are extremely well drawn.

  The acting here, especially from Yves Montand is all first rate. Emmanualle Beart is a legendary beauty in this.

  I would wager that anyone would be hard-pressed to name a more tragic story after viewing this movie, along with its predecessor Jean de Florette,
