It's interesting that all of Elaine May's movies deal with odd couples, whether they're straight "romantic" couples (A New Leaf, The Heartbreak Kid) or male friendships (Mikey and Nicky, Ishtar). Maybe when you come up in a famous comedy duo the format of two people playing off each other is hard to shake.

On the Silver Globe 1988
Strange and at times borderline incomprehensible, yet hypnotic; I do think the unfinished nature adds a postmodern/metatextual element which improves the film, especially the ending, and reminds me a little of the formal experiments of Do Not Expect Too Much From the End of the World.
