  A below average film saved by 3 things:

  - Meta throwback jokes
  - Damien
  - A sparse scattering of real burst out laughing moments, mostly involving Damien

  Otherwise, they really shouldn't have tried to stick so closely to the original script, they really should've tried to make Regina seem like she *could* be seen as an actual friend, and Cady could've had more of a transition to mean girl. And Aaron Samuels definitely could've been hotter.

  It pains me to give this 3 stars tbh but I just didn't love it. Saw the twist coming, cared very little for the main character in general. The 60s scenes were stunningly done but not enough to redeem this film for me even as a die hard Edgar Wright fangirl.

  Both these films are middling. There's naff among genuine good moments.

  But

  The little bits, the little references it gets right, it gets right on a level that makes me do an inward squeak. And I'll be watching Sonic 3, 4, 5... just for those.
