  A few months ago my oldest brother left home to join the military with a special forces contract. When someone close to you leaves you're tempted to designate events in relation to that departure: first weekend without J., first Thanksgiving without J., first Christmas without J. Of course, someday, he'll be back — having a "first Christmas without J." doesn't necessitate that all Christmases be without J. We know this because joining special forces and dying are not the same…

  Perfection. The cinematography, the images, the palette, the casting, the performances, the screenplay — perfection. Features possibly the most likable protagonist ever. And on top of all that, they threw in an Alice In Chains cameo!

  Between this and In the Mood for Love, I’m thinking red might be the best color for film.
