colors and sound are indelible, the film oozes style
crazy that this film (and every other from this era of the 80s) is nearly 40 years old.
incredible piece of filmmaking. the paranoia and deadpan/serious nature of the character is really reflected in the blend of close camerawork and still or slow moving shots that are framed like still life paintings. it’s definitely aided by the nature and narrative of the film, but the sound editing is some of the best ive seen in any film.
the plot is a little loose and resembles the nature of a lot of 70s thrillers, but the feeling Coppola elicits is so unique.
also, shoutout gene hackman rip. this performance is world class
crazy to say this i think anora is still my personal favorite of the year (after dune 2), but the technical achievement of this film is so monumental and breathtaking - i genuinely do think it lives up to the hype.
