  I agree with the more negative reviews, despite the charming and fascinating subject. Maybe I blinked, but I didn’t hear one word about how and where precisely the food was actually prepared, by whom, and under what conditions. The logistics alone would make an interesting section. Given how the film glosses over the strike like it’s an unseemly topic, lack of information about the employees that made the Automat function may have been a conscious choice. Or it may just have been another fumble.

  I liked this film on the first watch, and it has grown on me since then. The histrionics of the human villains are a little distracting how they honk their one loud note, but they serve their purpose. Other characters are more fun to watch, particularly the quirky 'Frankenstein.' The zombies are more fun than ever, serving up a more colorful slice of post-humanity than in the previous zombie films. Day of the Dead has more gore than ever, and…
