The movie is so great up until that last 5 minutes. I really wish he would reshoot it. It just does not work for me… even would consider it awkward and clumsy. I understand what he was trying to do but it just didn’t work for me

This film is in desperate need of restoration and hopefully Criterion picks it up soon with the rest of Sembene’s work. Like most of his movies the acting is sometimes amateur and it can come off as preachy; however he beautifully depicts important political and religious struggles with sensitivity and compassion.
