The Last Temptation of Christ 1988
I'll admit I liked this more when I was younger and more easily dazzled by its edgy sacrilege. But it still holds up.
Highlights for me:
Willem Dafoe's portrayal of a Jesus tortured by God's ambiguous and ever changing demands for faith, love, violence, sacrifice, mercy and guilt.
Jesus' hairstyle changes through the film as an illustration of his self-assuredness -- when he is at his most confident, marching into Jerusalem, his hair becomes almost Bee-Gee-esque in its glory.

After watching The Thing, I was hoping to love this. Unfortunately it was just a little too silly and plodding. Movies were just made differently in 1981. I probably can't rate this until I've successfully stayed awake through it. It took me four sessions to finish, which is not the fault of the film but my lack of healthy sleep habits. But it was surreal to keep nodding off and waking up to see the characters doing the same.
