Slapstick Hong Kong is not my favorite, but several of the comedic bits in "Yes, Madam" made me giggle. The sexual-assault fakeout was NOT one of them. :(

Are Michelle Yeoh and Cynthia Rothrock's characters actually good detectives? Does it matter when they can high-kick a gun out of your hand? Yeoh is so freakin' charming. Rothrock just wants to beat people up. Together, they overact and overreact their way to a less than satisfying finale. Overall, fun movie!

AND THE FINAL FIGHT SCENE. SOOO GREAT. YES, Madam(s), YASS.

Slowly-paced, heartfelt – I like this movie a lot. Glad I saw it in the theatre; it’s more satisfying to wince, belly-laugh, and call out “f-ing a-hole!” collectively. Glad I wore my crying sweater (The neck easily stretches up over your face, and the fabric is thin enough to not obscure your view. Also, the sleeves absorb tears well).

I appreciate that Burnham didn’t overly humiliate his heroine for cringe-laughs. He wrote a likeable, brave protagonist; a good dad; and a simple, relatable plot. Learn to be patient and gracious with yourself. And don’t be mean to people. It’s not nice.
