Interesting take on man's duality - as both an imago-dei ruler of the world and a puny biped whose life and lunch money are easy pickings for a whale. Almost compelling enough to tempt me to give Moby Dick another chance.

My main critique is that it's impossible to tell where Mr. Chase (Chris Hemsworth's character) is supposed to be from, as his accent and delivery keep alternating between Thor and Brian O'Connor from Fast and Furious. But Hemsworth's main job is not to sound like a Nantucket sailor - it's to convince us that whaling is cool, and that is where he succeeds.

Will justice be served? Or will a terrible crime ruin the tour (the world tour)?

What a film. Yes, it has moments that border on jumping the shark ("the street always wins"? Really?) - but the previous Furious movies have so successfully acclimated me to improbable antics that the over-the-top action scenes felt plausible within the world of film. Great practical effects, well-choreographed fights, and grounded characters ultimately save this one.

On paper, this is not a five-star movie. But movies do not exist on paper, and this movie has five-star vibes. I've always resonated…

I was going to give this movie five stars, but my three-year-old son raised a valid concern: not enough dinosaurs!
