Objectively a beautiful looking film. It sets its tone and aesthetic so clearly you can identify the setting immediately. THE MINIATURE SETS. Also, Craig’s performance is heart rending. I just absolutely struggle with William Burroughs. The beats and their insufferable misogyny and romanticization of drug abuse didn’t age well. Obsessed with this monster and its cheesy 80’s practical effects. This synth score is SICK I don’t care what anyone else thinks. I went into this movie blind and did not know the director was kidnapped and forced to make this film by Kim Jong-il. It’s a propaganda film dressed as Godzilla. It’s easy to understand how this movie became a cult classic, though I am unlikely to ever watch it again.
