    Hurt people hurt people.

Could see girlboss feminists try to rehabilitate the female villain now, even though the man didn't do anything to her and she's just insane.

Neat adaptation with a lot of flair. Surprisingly striking visually. The Lady Macbeth performance is one weakness, as she doesn't really evince the manipulative cunning needed for the role, but the other principals, plus small roles, like the old doorman who discourses about alcohol, are very good. The writing is, of course, immortal, with many passages given a lively, vivid interpretation and delivery.

From the cool blues and greys of the cinematography, to the dreamy out of focus points of light in the background, to the Tangerine Dream synth score, the 80s-Chicago aesthetic is clean and pristine. Heat is the better film by a notch, but this one looks better. Caan cooks.

Was pretty sour on this when it first came out, but it's much better than I gave it credit for. The complete magnanimity of the rich family toward their servants (paying them well, trusting them, their jobs are actually very easy), while only the smallest slight (noticing their actual smell) triggers envious, murderous rage is extremely subversive and genius.
