Castle in the Sky 1986
I was hoping to gush all over this film, especially since I've been spirited away by many of his other films. But alas, it was not to be. I almost wanted to give this a 3.5 because of its central flaw, but that would have been overly harsh. The animations / visuals were stunning as we would expect. However, the script falls far, far short from his other films.
How? It lacked the core spirituality and themes of other films…

FFFFFF*CKKKKKK this movie was good. I haven't been moved like this is years. It's authentic in your GUTS. The humor, the understated desperation. The TRAUMA.
Less than five movies have resonated with me at every level like this.An absolute top 10 must watch. The tension of the conflict hurts. I could barely stand the climax.

An absolute atomic blast of a cult movie. The next best thing to The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Speed Racer meets Wisconsin Nazis meets Frankenstein meets Hunger Games meets Running Man. I suspect this movie has influenced everything in the dystopian games genre.

Perfect Blue 1997
Trippy and as horrifying as I would expect from a 1990s anime without giant fighting robots or space battleships. Loved the multiple twists.
This needs a modern 2023 Western adaptation because I see this fits 1000% with Instagram influencers. And it would be pure joy watching characters in that industry portray this particular story.
