  Was this Howard Keel’s attempt to be the musical version of John Wayne? This is so “alpha male” that it borders on parody. The literal abuse he doles out to Esther Williams is a bridge too far to make this redeemable. The best part is Williams’ underwater fight scene- did those guys really think they were gonna catch her?
