    Klute

One of the classic Klute scenarios. While the final stretch is as unsettling as the decade offers, mostly this is a thriller defined by quiet loneliness. Two people who seem to be burdened by the thick stink of feelings following them around who seem like they’re always in separate orbits and can only permeate each others’ bubbles briefly. Astounding to have a New York movie about how isolating a place it can be, with Gordon Willis’ beautiful low lit photography making every room feel like the loneliest one in the world, as while a thriller is unsettling permeating at the edges of the frame. Klute!

easy to get JAZZED when you see the camera start moving closer and closer to something and you know Hitchcock has something to show you. that tricky fella. chases on rocky, foggy highlands, trying to clear your name and avoid arrest, a memory man in danger for knowing too much. a very fun thriller in its nascent form. some unbelievable stuff- an assassin startled by a shadow, evocative shots of doorways, close ups on a missing finger. Hitchcock guarantees his wrong man spy thriller is anything but plain

I am glad to see Looney Tunes going nuts in a theater, and with pretty lovely animation that is willing to break format in fun ways, and there are a few really fun gags but I think I am primarily ambivalent because, you know, while this is fun and cute, original Looney Tunes is where like the best jokes ever originated and were perfected so it’s a lofty comparison point
