An absolutely perfect film. Uncluttered, focused, and thoughtful; not a moment of screentime is wasted on anything that doesn't advance our understanding of the characters and their deeply interlaced emotional complexities.

On the surface it's a movie about fast jets and their cocky pilots. It's fun, thrilling, and stuffed with shit you have never seen on screen before. But that's just the sugar coated topping. There's another layer underneath, that's been polished to brilliance by the experience of every film…

Quite simply: RRR is the best film ever made.

I don't think I've laughed as gleefully during a movie scene as I did for the dog attack fight sequence in JOHN WICK 3... Until RRR.

This movie does a stellar job of setting up—and actually paying off—HUGE emotional stakes with wild, silly abandon. It is relentless, pummeling your heart for 3 hours. Equal parts (in my white American experience) BRRROKEBACK MOUNTAIN, POINT BRRREAK, and FACE OFF.

We deserve a sequel to this fantastic action movie.

This movie is super fucked up... which is a big reason why it's so great. These two women are just the worst, no question. Well, one question: Aren't we all? Few things get me more 'roided up than a couple queer women doing the best they can to not be the worst, and pretty much failing.

I'll tell you; what it is like is if they made a 2020s Nic Cage film featuring an late 1990s Nic Cage, but with…

In the pantheon of movies nobody asked for, if MAD MAX: FURY ROAD is King, THE MATRIX RESURRECTIONS is Queen. Let me start by setting it alongside FURY ROAD as a feminist masterpiece and work back around to it.

    Spoilers within.

There’s a lot to love here:

The way director Lana Wachowski adamantly refuses to bow before the lords of the reboots, choosing instead to craft not only an intensely personal rebuttal of the cash grab mindset, but a thoughtful…

I heard an interesting critique of QUANTUMANIA: that we didn't get enough evidence from the film for why Scott is so disconnected from Cassie's life.

    Here's why I disagree:

"Show, don't tell" is an ancient axiom, for good reason. It isn't always the right answer—and personal preference is definitely a factor—but to me, reading "she was exhausted" is never quite as powerful or evocative as "her knees wanted to buckle."

Here's the thing about Scott Lang: he loves his daughter…
