Now this is a good Aussie comedy.
I’ve been putting this off, dreading a possible dud despite the classic status.
There was no need to be worried.
A barrage of jokes, great characters, and plenty of teasing but with sincerity. Satire with heart.
Not quite Kath-&-Kim-tier, but well up there!
Bryan Dawe showing up the night after randomly seeing John Clarke in Death in Brunswick the night before was a coincidental highlight.
I really wanted to like an Aus classic feat Sam Neill. But tbh my score is generous, given my developing disinterest.
I think the dark comedic tone just completely missed for me, except a spattering of John Clarke’s nostalgic deadpan voice.
The final couple of minutes scraped back a hint of interest.
Pretty much what I was expecting going in re: stressful time watching R-Pat be a piece of shit.
Undeniably effective in creating discomfort. And well-performed by all. I just am not sure what it was all for.
The ending brought it back a bit - particularly the final scene.
