Hmmm. Some really interesting characters, and some fabulous monologues and bits of dialogue, but for some reason overall it felt a little undercooked? I don’t know how to put it. I think the pacing was a little off somehow, and when we said goodbye to the tour group (which contained some excellent characters with awesome casting, I might add), it felt a bit premature.
Maybe this would have hit harder on a big screen (I watched this on an aeroplane).…
Sadly this didn’t hit for me, despite Eric Bana once again slaying, this time as a district 1 career tribute. There were multiple concurrent narratives occurring, but I found that none were fully fleshed out / all that interesting / related to anything else that was going on. Unfortunately the big reveal fell super flat for me as well. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
I went into this expecting to be psychologically thrilled in a Gone Girl / A simple favour-esque type of heart rate elevating way. This was not the case. Instead, I left the cinema with a low heart rate, the question of "wtf was that all about?” and an all-encompassing feeling of unease.
My visceral feelings of discomfort still persist a day after my viewing, and I think this is testament to the absolutely phenomenal acting:
