The Penguin 2024
Unlike many spin-offs, The Penguin doesn’t over-rely on fan service and try to capitalize off of a famous property. Instead, the show is a gritty crime drama that just so happens to take place in Matt Reeves’ DC universe. The show has great writing, acting, and production quality. Easily my favourite show of the year so far.

The Night of the Hunter 1955
The Night of the Hunter is truly one of the best films I’ve ever seen, ahead of its time both in its cinematography/visual styles and in blending genres. Struggling to understand why it was critically panned upon release, and it’s a shame Charles Laughton didn’t direct another film after this.

Monster 2004
Monster is my favourite anime I’ve watched so far. Like Death Note, it’s a psychological thriller anime exploring morality and the human psyche, but it is much more grounded and explores the themes with more complexity. A lot of reviews here complain about the 74-episode length, but I thought even the ‘filler’ episodes were engaging and mostly added to the story. Would recommend, even if you normally don't like anime
