    Hooptober 6.0 - Film Nr. 4

Christopher Lee's Dracula is back - and he is sexier than ever. Also a lot more sympathetic, since this time it became clear to me that he ultimately embodies pure lust and physical attraction as opposed to the church's politics of repressing any sexuality whatsoever. What a joy to watch these two forces in constant battle.

    Hooptober 6.0 - Film Nr. 1

What a film to begin Hooptober with! This had been on my watchlist for a while now - and it did not disappoint. Goodnight Mommy is directed with bursting confidence in both the uncanny setting and the even uncannier performances by the Schwarz twins and Susanne Wuest. Those boys really did creep me out.
I especially enjoyed the film's slow, but effective shift of indicating whose "side" we are on - the mother's or the twins' or even no ones. The question is never resolved and the horror lingers.

    Hooptober 5.0 - #2

Hell, after a rather bumpy start this get's more exquisite with every minute. It's sharp, brilliantly lit and features a bunch of real stand-out scenes that feel heavily influental to a lot of films tackling similar issues, especially the repressed female sexuality.
For my taste, there could have been more cat-related puns, though.
