I tried to be unpopular and not see this one for a while. Then it ran the Oscar noms and I was like well let me see. Despite my thoughts on the noms, this film is incredible! The set and production design, the choreography, the lighting, the camera work…holy smokes, fantastic! Also Ariana Grande was so dang funny and crushed that role! Count me impressed on all fronts! Can’t wait for part 2!

I watched way too many interviews before seeing this film. I just find Jesse & Kieran to be really entertaining to watch in a performance and interview/Q&A setting. Anyway, the film in a lot of ways feels super small and isolated and contained which I think lends itself to the mental state of both leads. We get to focus on them and their journey and the other cast compliment that with their performances and how their characters are written. I got more emotional at times than I expected to and at times I didn’t expect to on top of that. Really well done outing by all!

    A waste of Brian Cox.

Also just not funny overall. Maybe laughed twice?

Really enjoyed the film through Sundance Film Festival online! It has a lot of heart and has throwback elements to early Spielberg which sparked a lot of great memories for me as a kid and a dreamer. It’s full of wonder and adventure through the eyes of teenagers on the verge of adulthood and if you know me, I’m all in on all of that!

Despite some early corniness and a just a splash of cringy dialogue, you just settle…
