Opening with St. Augustine is a wild choice, and it gets wilder from there. Immensely funny, internally consistent, and excellent pace. I’m not a laugh-out-loud movie watcher, but to be in a raucous room of 1 am hysteria was so fun. Worth the hour and a half nap to substitute for sleep.

Into Great Silence 2005
“Anyone who does not give up everything cannot be my disciple.”
The perfect life is not a hollow command; those who are pure in heart—whose whole being long for nothing other than God—shall see him, we are promised.
This movie does not give a checklist of answers or steps. It solely explicates that such love exists, and exists in the humanity of chores, reading, sledding, and Great Silence.
A perfect film. A meditation. An invitation for your very heart to enter the monastery, to enter Into Great Silence.
“Lord Jesus, have mercy on us.”

About Time 2013
With this time we are given, may we truly love.
A perfect movie, which ceaselessly reveals more and more the human condition and the wonder of life. Worthy of all contemplative attention. I have cried, and will cry again, because of this movie.

Only Yesterday 1991
A beautiful witness to recollecting past hurts without bitterness, and remembering past actions with forgiveness. Love keeps no record of wrong. Such profound love takes a lifetime to cultivate, yet it ought to be our aspiration.
The art was so sweet—as always—and the slow shots of making dye and cultivating a field made me long for a pastoral life. Lovely to sit in for all the minutes we can get.
