Halloween 1978
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
Perhaps the greatest accomplishment I can attribute to Carpenter's classic is that it actually lives up to its reputation. After nearly forty years of critique, imitation, adaptation, and acclaim, it can be difficult to see a film in a fair light. However, despite all this time to have its reputation unrealistically skewed one way or another, I still thought this was pretty great. A Nos Amours 1983
What started as an expectedly erotic bildungsroman morphed into an actually interesting examination of a rather troubled family. The notion of how family members behave differently toward one another in different situations was well-represented, and Suzanne's relationship with her father was surprisingly touching at times. The juvenility of a decent portion of the story (horny teenagers) was a bit detrimental in the end, but an engaging and interesting film nonetheless.
