This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
Heretic does attempt to provide thought provoking discussion as to faith and the power of belief. This display is let down by its story line and plot development as the first half is very strong, but I can’t say the same for the second. The movie is held up by Hugh Grant’s performance, where he is both charming and creepy simultaneously. I posit that better control could have been shown throughout to not make symbolic foreshadowing spoil the film.
A solid 3 out of 5 stars.
Dracula, my favourite novel and character of all time. Robert Eggers’ depiction, although under the name of Count Orlok, was menacing, mysterious and amazing to see on a cinema screen. This coupled with the eerie and beautiful cinematography made for a sinister vibe throughout. Despite all that, Lily-Rose Depp’s star shone brightest as she gave a career defining performance that should warrant forthcoming awards.
This movie was the best representation of a Count Dracula movie I have seen and as such, warrants a 5 out of 5 star rating.
