  this was....fine. kinda obviously supposed to be a Disney+ series, with clear episode break points and parts missing from the story. songs weren't as memorable, although Auli'i is the best and the "villain" song was fun, as was that character who amounted to nothing but a misdirect and a quest giver. I didn't hate the new crew but also didn't care enough about them. villain was again a bit dull, but there was a interesting approach with the villain wanting to keep everyone divided and therefore weaker. hopefully the real Moana 2, Moana 3, is a bit more fleshed out.

  One of the best looking Disney animated films, the water physics are next level; Auliʻi Cravalho is a powerhouse singer, i got chills whenever she sang, i'm interested to see how much has changed in the sequel.

  It's the last good film with The Rock in it and the villain is a bit muddled in what it is/lacking any menace, but this has a really nice story of the importance of tradition and culture.

  Seeing a live orchestra perform Daniel Pemberton's score for this highlights three things:

  1. there is a lot of licensed music which really inhibits the orchestra's amount of play time
  2. more film scores need to be creative with their instrumentation cause seeing a 20 piece string section jamming out with a dj, and full rock band set up is dope
  3. this score is solid, but repetative after a while and only really hits hard in the third act, where as Across's score is more nuanced and prevelant.
