watched this twice tonight—first with Sabrina (loves it), then solo with commentary. marvelous in the most literal sense, and quickly becoming one of my favorite movies to look at. there’s just the right amount of scruffiness to make it feel fresh each time. while I think the script doesn’t quite grow the book into the full capital-S Story they were going for, it’s a neat expansion. the “wild animal” theme in particular has a lot of chew to it. my top three vocal performances go: 3) Gambon, 2) Clooney, 1) Dafoe
