Mid 17.
Funny, well acted, but makes the critical fumble of getting caught up with plot in a comedy. I'm annoyed at how much it seems to set up, and then drops or walks-back. I don't know how much of this is from the original book.
You're telling me Bong Joon-ho somehow divined years early that Trump would be grazed by an assassin's bullet?
Style and atmosphere are the big appeals here, and the film has plenty to spare. The science fiction aspect of being set in the future is mostly an excuse to have even more exotic and fantastical imagery. Vampire tropes are played straight and subverted in equal measure. The only real flub is that the plot only reveals itself about 20 minutes from the ending when several characters finally get some development. But it's a fun ride along.

The devil, having engineered the annihilation of the entire human race, having killed the one and only person to ever have empathy for them, finally feels a sense of pain, longing, loss, and perhaps even love. Then, seconds later, they are utterly annihilated by god's angels. That's an escalation of scale and a pursuit of thematic finality few varieties of media ever have the gumption to pursue.
An above average cast and some surprisingly prolific special effects, but there's not a lot of gas in the tank with the script. And the theme is founded on that stupid "there are two wolves inside you" moral that's not authentically native american. New Mutants, how briefly we knew ye.
