The Monkey 2025
A funny, nasty little movie that in making death the punchline, reminds us of the ways life is precious. Horror has a way of reflecting the time it was made in ways the authors aren’t always conscious of, and I think this will be one that’s considered a hallmark of the debased post-COVID Trump era. Of course, if the monkey doesn’t get us first.
Side note: casting the adult twins as Joe Pera would’ve been an absolute slay.

A film that starts out so beautiful, so promising, so ripe with poetry. And then totally shits the bed in the last act by revealing that the central character is an abusive kid diddler. A character who understands that he's trash, but doesn't understand WHY he's trash. Written by authors that think they're a lot more profound than they are.
