Terms of Endearment 1983
Wow how our storytelling has evolved over the past 40 years. The characters feel like caricatures of what a man imagines an emotional woman to be like. Everyone felt half developed, like they only showed enough to let you know these are real people then poof, on to a different timeline.
If Emma’s dying, essentially alone in a hospital, was accurate for the time then dear God, no wonder a lot of Boomers are emotionally immature and selfish. Yikes. How far we’ve come.
Shirley McClain does some great acting so it gets 3 stars for her solely. But otherwise, meh.

This is an incredibly unique film to watch. It’s based on a book which should be read. The book is based on the Dozier School and the atrocities committed there. The Tampa Bay Times has an incredible investigation of this. Please read and watch all of them. It was not that long ago.
