Brighton Rock 1948
I feel like they went into my brain and plucked everything I imagined when reading the book. Perfect casting, acting, and sets!! Richard Attenborough, Carol Marsh, and Hermione Baddeley are all fantastic and each manage to convey so much in each of their characters that cannot be said in such a short runtime.
In fact, the brevity itself inevitably simplifies the characters a bit too much, and so does the kind of overly traditional narrative style.
