Bringing Out the Dead is a criminally underrated Scorsese film. This is peak Cage, backed by a great stable of character actors in supporting roles. Scorsese captures New York in the way that only he can and all of his beautiful shots are complimented with a kickass soundtrack.

Wolf Man 2025
Wolf Man taps into a father’s greasiest fear: ruining a family vacation by slowly and gruesomely transforming into a snarling wolf beast.
Some pretty gnarly makeup and visuals - loved the transitions into and out of wolf POV - layered onto some very thinly written characters. Gotta give it to this one for having a few wolf-man sequences that I’ve never seen before.

King Kong 2005
Of the three King Kongs I watched this week - 1933, 1976, and this one - Jackson’s is far and away the most emotionally impactful. Between Andy Serkis’ mo-cap laying the groundwork for awesome characterization and Naomi Watts absolutely selling it, Kong 2005 packs an emotional what’ll op! It’s the only one of these movies that made my daughter inconsolable afterward.
King Kong’s got a high body count with some truly gnarly kills and great jungle action. Unfortunately, you really feel the runtime in places and a lot of it doesn’t look great.

Alien: Romulus 2024
I thoroughly enjoyed about 80% of Alien Romulus. The first chunk of the movie on the mining colony really had me invested in this movie and I found myself regretting my harsh prejudgements. The early world building is rich with details and we're once again reminded how little Weyland Yutani, or "The Company", cares about anything besides its profit margins, despite the constant automated reminders stating otherwise. I could have lived in this world a little while longer so much…

The Wild Robot 2024
I am such a sap these days. Every single emotional beat in The Wild Robot hit me like a sack of bricks. There wasn't at trace of irony to be found, just touching theme after touching theme. This movie goes into the importance of accepting those that are different than you, learning to change beyond what you've initially been programmed or taught, showing kindness, forming community, and celebrating diversity, and much more. It's just loaded with a schwack of nice…
