Alien: Romulus 2024
We are ACTUALLY so back. Fede Álvarez delivers a phenomenal, thrilling horror-sci-fi film that’s very reminiscent of the classic Alien we all know and love so much. Dare I say this is one of the best films of the entire franchise, full to the brim with visceral fear while still having just the right amount of emotionality necessary for us to give a fuck about the characters, thanks to very stellar performances from Cailee Spaeny and David Jonsson. Just absolute fucking chaos and sheer terror of the cold-blooded unknown in outer space this was everything I was hoping for

Past Lives 2023
There’s a strange beauty in incompleteness and Celine Song absolutely nails that theme, especially with the ending. The idea of past lives is presented with so much adoration in this film, and the leads propel every scene with such longing and “what if?” that it’s quite painful, but in the most cinematic way possible. Delicate, empathetic, and definitely one of the best films of 2023 thus far.
