Time Bandits 1981
Well that was a fun time, an adventure for sure! This was an 80’s fantasy film I’d missed so I’m glad I finally saw it. I love Shelley Duvall!!! This went on too much in the second act, noticeable pacing issues. In the end it didn’t make much sense but who cares it’s fantasy.

Starve Acre 2023
Slow-burn folklore based horror, atmospheric dread and fantastic visuals. The actors held this film together, I felt like more could have been offered in the storytelling. As I am not familiar with this specific lore, I did feel like there was some parts that aren’t really explained. I really enjoyed this until the last 15 minutes. I still liked it, but the loose ends didn’t work in my experience.

Poor Things 2023
Such a brilliant piece on the absurdity of societal views on feminism. The hypocrisy of it is astoundingly highlighted. The use of a “baby brain” felt deeply rooted in the unrealistic obsession with youth and sexuality. The concept of anatomical agency is at play in the way of sex positive ideas surrounding sex work as well as pointing out the flaws in misogyny and the toxic male need to own women. What I liked most is it stays being a fictional story, very entertaining and absurd with strong messages about women owning their own bodies.

Stunning! What a story, and definitely now my favorite film of 2023. Lily deserves the Oscar for this and Scorsese is just such a fine example of a master filmmaker. Period.
