The King of Comedy 1982
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
The first hour of this had me invested in such a visceral way.
I've only seen it the one time, but my first feeling was that the ending, though effective, somewhat betrays the character. In the end, Rupert Pupkin feels like an emotional chekhov's gun that never fires :/
And it feels like that direction was taken in service of social commentary that just..... doesn't hit as a hard right now. I understand that this is probably an unfair thing…

Might resonate even more upon a rewatch (which I definitely will)
First impressions: could have been shorter, CG is there, the music was downgraded (why?), "Praetorian Jack' was a confusing highlight, and still it was so refreshing to me.
It's not exactly answering "necessary" questions, but I think approaching it like that is kind of missing the point. Not to condone the "content"-focused mindset that might suggest "more = better", but I do love getting…
