With all the talk about the film's momentousness, important subject matter(s), comparisons to other epics, and its impressive scale given the budget, I was struck by the amount of modesty and gentleness that there is in The Brutalist. An awful movie and an especially awful sequel. Doesn't build on the first film in any meaningful way, just stagnates inside it while interrogating it in the most obvious and tedious of ways.
