  they showed us this in elementary school and i have not viewed it since. judging from the other reviews here, that's a good thing. all i remember from it is being freaked out by the scene where he gets burned and at some point later he has trouble riding a horse bc of his hand i think. that's it. but that getting-burned-by-molten-silver part haunted me as a child. considering this is a 1950s disney movie though i have a feeling it was actually pretty mild

  i am forever indebted to matt baume for making a youtube video about this and introducing me to this hidden gem. the dialog is witty and hilarious, everyone's comedic timing is pristine, and it's clear that this was a labor of love (even the obvious shoestring budget was charming in its own way - ah, early 2000s cgi) from people who know and love this era of film history (love the films that is, not the culture they were made…

  moments have become increasingly funnier to me as i age (or i noticed for the first time today):
  - when donner sees rudolph's nose for the first time his antlers curl up and emote like andorian antennae or something (this never happens again)
  - the name Yukon Cornelius is funny just on its own tbh
