Rickyyyyyy!! What a bright and lovable character who keeps falling into shit over and over again. I’ve never seen such love and care be put into a story. A story that is brought to life by amazing characters and some deft directing.

    I loved it. I laughed, I audibly said “no! C’mon man! Don’t do that!” I cried a bit. I learned a lot.

Another special Sundance premiere that I couldn’t get enough of. I wish I had more to say other than that this movie really did it for me, and I hope others get to see it.

Ugh, what a bummer. A family road trip with a destination unknown, but boy oh boy does this journey seem ominous!

The contrasts were stark. Beautiful scenery, kids being kids, little inconveniences that lead to little laughs. But the ennui hanging over our protagonist cast sa very long shadow behind all of the joy.

Oh boy here we go. In a similar vein as “Beau is Afraid” and “Men,” this is a film that is ~vibes~ and I was doomed from the start because those types of movies are just not for me.

I do like allegories, but if we’re gonna go down that road I need some plot instead of being smothered by metaphor after metaphor after metaphor. It’s a movie that is so focused on metaphor that there is no narrative arc…

Oh what it is to be young. This film was simultaneously endearing and haunting, reminding me of all the same mistakes I made as a kid. It’s an exercise in deep deep DEEP nostalgia and dramatic irony, where I found myself frustrated but not the least bit surprised at any of the decisions made by our central character. But that’s the beauty of it, we’ve all been there.

We’ve seen the coming of age movie before, most notably with Bo Burnham’s “Middle School”, but this is another masterfully crafted outing to 8th grade that will make you cackle and cry in a matter of minutes.
