if you’re looking for a dark and dramatic follow up to parasite this isn’t it. instead we got a banger of a sci-fi with pretty overt political satire sprinkled on top. Robert pattinson continues to prove he can do literally anything with mark ruffalo giving another stellar performance. my only critique is the writing was a little stiff but since the writer isn’t a native english speaker and it still runs miles around anything i write i’ll give it a pass

probably my least favourite of the oscar nominees i’ve seen so far. that doesn’t mean it’s bad but it didn’t engage me as much as i had hoped for. i think the premise of the factions within the church vying for power is interesting but isn’t fully realised here. i found father Lawrence to be kinda boring when he should be had so much potential for more and the ending felt a little unearned. but hey it’s a good excuse to get a bunch of old people to act together and the oscar’s love that

If you can make a period piece about where we are right now this would be it. The excess of youth, disproportionate wealth and the commercialisation of sex . Mikey Madison delivers a hilarious and gut wrenching performance in a film that towers over the word “Dramady”. A stark reminder that love isn’t for cowards.
