The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists! 2012
Ironically pirated this on a dodgy fire stick.
Stunning animation, razor-sharp comedy (which is perhaps Aardman’s most risqué to date), and a tour de force voice acting performance from Hugh Grant as the hapless yet charming Pirate Captain.
My main gripe with this film would be its pacing. Although the exhilarating pace of the plot aptly contributes to a sense of swashbuckling, piratical adventure, it can simultaneously leave the story feeling somewhat rushed and underbaked - particularly in the third act.
Nonetheless, I feel like this is a solid - if not underrated - entry within Aardman’s incredibly consistent filmography that is definitely worth checking out.
