Once again forced to watch this movie on a fucking laptop. Once again promised a buddy a great movie night and once again failed to deliver on the goods. Forgot the hdmi adaptor at work. Once again had to watch this amazing film on a laptop propped on a chair. Still the coolest looking movie even on a 15'' screen, but seriously what the fuck. God does not want me to watch this movie on a proper screen. I'm so sorry Michael Mann.

Everyone should have to watch this in history class. You can understand almost everything there is to know about these last two centuries just by watching this film.
Tears in my eyes during the scene where Jose Dolores walks through the crowd of his people halfway through the film. Mind-blowing performance from a guy who had never seen a film before in his life, let alone acted in front of a camera.

A hard one to rate. Can't say I really understood it, and every comment I want to make about it feels either obvious or reductive — the Lynchian atmosphere, the way the random knife violence feels like a continuation of the last shot of Cure, the oppressive feeling of dread and decay.
I won't try too hard to analyze it. It was very strange and mysterious and disturbing, and watching it sort of felt like I was losing my mind. Another successful Kurosawa experiment.
