Salvation, a central concept for Malick that is explored here with a striking tenderness. I’ve put off watching this, sad to finish his filmography—except the VR one and the one at AFI—but I think I saved the best for last.

My script re-write: Lucy Liu works as a fixer for a chemical firm, tortured with the knowledge that she killed two girls in her daughter’s class with a toxic spill that she’s trying and failing to cover-up. Then the daughter comes down with a mysterious illness and we are forced to powerlessly watch as the secret destroys her family and kills her only daughter. Basically a reverse Erin Brokovich.
