Rope 1948
It is a terrific example of how murders, and murder mysteries, can foster tremendous stylization of dialogue and scene that leads to a hyper-focused version of life. Murders like this are, of course, unrealistic, but they let us -- just as a detective solving a homicide -- hone in a few select clues, or lines, or mannerisms, to derive much more significant meanings.
This movie is made in a somewhat odd way, but I think it really works. The ideas it expresses are fascinating too, at least as an allegory for WWII.

Watching this specifically to tell @dspmovies to FUCK OFF. What a flick.
I have never read The Taming of the Shrew but it is nevertheless a delight to see the shape of Shakespeare all over this. What I like the most is that it is big, big like Shakespeare, which is my favorite accomplishment of his works.
This little dude that walks around with JGL is the best too, always love these dudes in the plays.
